B2B application examples showcasing how the HD-SDI interface density and SPTS architecture of the EMU-8200 series solve large-scale professional video requirements:

  • Broadcast Master Control Room (MCR) to IPTV Headend Distribution: Television broadcast stations handle uncompressed HD-SDI feeds coming from various production decks, cameras, and external playout servers. By installing the EMU-8212 in the Master Control Room, engineers can feed 12 independent HD-SDI broadcast signals into a single 1U rack unit. The device compresses these sources into 12 separate H.264 UDP Multicast SPTS streams, distributing the live television channels across the station’s internal local network for real-time employee viewing on any office PC or network display screen.

  • Live Sports Production Trucks and OB Van Integration: Outside Broadcasting (OB) vans operate in high-vibration, tightly enclosed environments where physical cable locking and rack-space efficiency are vital. Production crews deploy the EMU-8208 or EMU-8212 to ingest uncompressed field camera lines directly via secure BNC connections. The unit processes up to 12 cameras simultaneously, outputting independent SPTS multicast streams over the truck’s localized IP network, giving directors and engineers immediate low-latency access to multi-angle feeds on professional IP multiviewers.

  • Large-Scale Stadium and Arena Live Video Turnaround: Modern sports arenas feature extensive networks of concourse displays, VIP suite televisions, and media room monitors. Using the EMU-8212, the venue’s technical team ingests 12 raw production camera feeds or scoreboard graphics via HD-SDI. The encoder outputs 12 independent H.264 SPTS multicast feeds over the stadium’s Gigabit LAN. Edge IPTV decoders or Smart TVs at each display point tune directly to the specific multicast IP addresses, delivering smooth 1080p60 fast-motion action to thousands of spectators simultaneously with zero signal dropouts.

  • Parliamentary and Local Government Multi-Chamber Broadcasting: Government municipal complexes use multiple professional SDI cameras across separate committee rooms, main courtrooms, and central assembly halls. The EMU-8208 or EMU-8212 consolidates these high-grade camera lines by aggregating up to 8 or 12 HD-SDI outputs into a single centralized 1U rack device. The system converts the uncompressed video lines into separate SPTS UDP/RTP streams, allowing the technical staff to route specific room streams directly to decentralized archiving servers or push them to wide-area network proxy nodes for public transparency compliance.

  • Centralized Medical Video Distribution for Hospital Operating Theaters: Advanced surgical environments utilize high-definition cameras attached to surgical microscopes, endoscopes, and operating room field cameras that output professional HD-SDI signals to preserve pure detail. By installing the EMU-8204 or EMU-8208 in the medical center’s primary server rack, the hospital can digitize up to 4 or 8 live surgical feeds simultaneously. The unit outputs independent SPTS multicast streams, distributing the surgical procedures across the hospital’s secure network to remote observation clinics or medical student lecture halls with absolute pixel clarity.

The BLANKOM EMU-8200 series is a family of professional, broadcast-grade high-density hardware encoding appliances housed in a standard 1U 19-inch rackmount chassis. It is engineered to ingest uncompressed digital video from multiple HD-SDI inputs, compress the signals utilizing robust compression algorithms, and encapsulate them into independent, low-latency IP streams to serve as core headend infrastructure for television stations, production studios, and telecom operators.

The EMU-8200 series is available in three hardware density configurations to perfectly scale according to specific project requirements, while maintaining identical software deployment features:

  • EMU-8204: Features 4 physical HD-SDI inputs and outputs 4 independent SPTS IP streams.

  • EMU-8208: Features 8 physical HD-SDI inputs and outputs 8 independent SPTS IP streams.

  • EMU-8212: Features 12 physical HD-SDI inputs and outputs 12 independent SPTS IP streams.

HD-SDI (High-Definition Serial Digital Interface) uses professional 75-ohm BNC connectors that feature a secure, physical locking mechanism, preventing accidental cable disconnections common with HDMI. Furthermore, SDI can transmit uncompressed high-definition broadcast video over long coaxial cable distances (up to 100 meters or more depending on cable grade) without signal degradation, jitter, or the need for expensive active extenders.

SPTS stands for Single Program Transport Stream, meaning that the encoder encapsulates exactly one television channel or video feed per individual destination IP address. This 1-to-1 processing layout (e.g., 12 HD-SDI inputs mapped to 12 distinct SPTS streams in the EMU-8212) allows network administrators to route, switch, and filter individual channels across the network matrix with absolute freedom, preventing the bandwidth waste associated with bulky multi-program (MPTS) multiplexes.

Each physical HD-SDI port natively captures uncompressed professional video signals up to 1080p Full HD at 50/60 frames per second (1080p60). The internal hardware processing core compresses these feeds utilizing the globally compatible H.264/AVC compression standard, guaranteeing artifact-free pixel mapping and universal compatibility with downstream IPTV set-top boxes, smart TVs, and software decoders.

The EMU-8200 series automatically de-embeds the digital audio channels directly from the incoming HD-SDI signal stream. It compresses the audio payload utilizing professional broadcast MPEG-1 Layer II (MP2) or AAC compression layers, multiplexing the audio track with the corresponding video components inside the TS container to preserve absolute, lifelong lip-sync synchronization.

To ensure seamless compatibility with managed telecom infrastructures and IT networks, the EMU-8200 series streams its generated SPTS outputs natively via UDP and RTP protocols (supporting both Multicast for local LAN distribution and Unicast for directed point-to-point links) over its high-bandwidth Gigabit Ethernet data interfaces.

Yes, an advanced internal hardware OSD (On-Screen Display) engine is integrated into every independent encoding line. Network administrators can overlay customized text lines, station identifiers, corporate logos, or transparent watermarks directly onto each individual video feed matrix via the web control panel in real time without causing packet drops or processing latency.

The series operates on a deeply hardened, lightweight embedded operating system with no external software dependencies. All system parameters—including input signal presence tracking, individual encoding bitrates (CBR/VBR), PID restructuring, and output multicast IP addresses—are managed completely remotely via an intuitive, browser-based WebGUI (Web User Interface) over a dedicated RJ45 management port.

Built inside a rugged, 1U steel chassis with an industrial internal power supply layout, the EMU-8200 series features a highly efficient thermal design optimized for server room deployment. By eliminating complex modular sub-blades and optimizing passive ventilation paths alongside ultra-reliable cooling components, the chassis maintains low operational temperatures. This layout yields an exceptional Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) track record under continuous 24/7/365 commercial workloads.
