BLANKOM IRD 6300 Application 1

BLANKOM IRD-2000 Series – Professional Application Examples

  • Primary Broadcast Station Sat-to-IP Gateway: Serving as the core ingestion node at the primary headend of a television station or telecom hub. The unit captures premium multi-stream satellite feeds using its standard DVB-S2X L-Band tuner, decrypts scrambled pay-TV channels via its professional CI slots, and maps the payload into high-throughput UDP/RTP Multicast IP transport streams (SPTS/MPTS) for local network distribution.

  • Legacy Broadcast System Integration & ASI Bridging: Functioning as a bidirectional interface bridge in facilities migrating from legacy infrastructure to IP. By utilizing the IRD-2020 or IRD-2022 models, engineers can route legacy asynchronous serial interfaces (ASI) straight into modern IP networks, or take incoming TSoIP streams and output them as physical ASI feeds to drive legacy hardware multiplexers or QAM modulators.

  • High-End Radio & TV Studio Audio Routing via AES/EBU: Deployed in high-tier broadcast master control rooms and radio transmission fields where audio purity is critical. Using the IRD-2020 or IRD-2022 models, the unit extracts embedded digital audio from satellite or IP feeds and routes it directly to professional mixing consoles via the noise-immune, uncompressed AES/EBU digital balanced audio interface.

  • Enterprise IP-to-Baseband Studio Decoding: Operating as a high-performance central decoder within studio grids and OB vans to process network-delivered video. Utilizing the dual RJ45 TSoIP interfaces on the IRD-2012 or IRD-2022 models, the device ingests secure Unicast or Multicast streams over the network and decodes them with absolute sync into uncompressed digital baseband HDMI or SDI outputs for monitoring walls.

  • Centralized NMS Carrier-Grade Monitoring Node: Deployed across distributed regional headends or distant transmitter sites as a fully managed diagnostic node. By leveraging the integrated SNMP v2.0 protocol layer, network administrators can bind the unit to centralized Network Management Systems (NMS) to remotely track tuner lock thresholds, RF signal health, CI module statuses, and capture automated system traps in real time.

The BLANKOM IRD-2000 series is an operator-grade, high-performance Integrated Receiver Decoder (IRD) and stream processing gateway designed for modern IPTV headends, broadcast stations, and telecom distribution hubs. It functions as an advanced bridge that ingests digital broadcast signals from RF, ASI, or IP transport networks, descrambles or filters the payload, and outputs the content simultaneously via physical studio video connections and digital IP architectures.

To precisely address various structural network integration demands, the product family consists of four distinct hardware models with specialized interface variations:

  • IRD-2010: Standard IP and RF processing chassis configuration (without ASI and AES/EBU).

  • IRD-2012: Equipped with dual RJ45 TSoIP inputs.

  • IRD-2020: Equipped with 1x ASI Input, 2x ASI Outputs, and a professional AES/EBU digital audio output.

  • IRD-2022: Fully loaded model featuring 1x ASI Input, 2x ASI Outputs, dual RJ45 TSoIP inputs, and a professional AES/EBU digital audio output.

The standard factory configuration for all models across the IRD-2000 series incorporates 1x Tuner DVB-S/S2/S2X L-Band input. This high-sensitivity satellite interface allows universal reception of standard, advanced, and next-generation multi-stream satellite transponders.

To provide maximum hardware versatility for regional distribution networks, the integrated tuner block can be factory-provisioned with optional digital broadcasting standards. These options comprehensively include digital cable (DVB-C), digital terrestrial (DVB-T/T2), ISDB-T, and ATSC tuner interfaces, adapting to any terrestrial or regional infrastructure.

Physical ASI (Asynchronous Serial Interface) connectivity is strictly provisioned on the IRD-2020 and IRD-2022 hardware models. These two versions incorporate 1x ASI Input and 2x independent ASI Outputs directly on their rear panels to interface seamlessly with traditional legacy broadcast matrices, hardware multiplexers, or legacy modulators.

Specialized IP stream ingestion capabilities are natively integrated into the IRD-2012 and IRD-2022 models. These two specific versions are equipped with 2x RJ45 TSoIP independent interfaces, allowing the device to act as an IP-to-IP or IP-to-baseband decoder core.

The TSoIP input processing stage complies fully with professional B2B telecom IP broadcasting infrastructure rules. It handles network stream ingestion utilizing line-rate UDP and RTP transport encapsulation, supporting both Unicast and Multicast routing layouts alongside seamless parsing of SPTS (Single Program) and MPTS (Multi-Program) transport streams over IP.

To satisfy high-availability criteria in tier-1 broadcast centers, a dual power supply architecture featuring 1:1 redundancy is available as a hardware option for the IRD-2000 series. This setup ensures that if a primary AC circuit fails, the secondary backup power supply instantly takes over the full power load without causing any stream dropped packets or device reboots.

To handle secured or encrypted premium broadcasting feeds, the hardware chassis incorporates professional PCMCIA Common Interface (CI) slots. These slots accommodate standard Conditional Access Modules (CAMs) and valid operator smart cards, enabling real-time, hardware-assisted descrambling of multiple secure television and radio services within the transport stream multiplex.

The advanced integrated hardware decoding tier is optimized for high-performance syntax parsing, natively decoding H.265 (HEVC), H.264 (AVC), and MPEG-2 video standard compression profiles. This guarantees that whether you are processing legacy SD channels or high-bitrate Ultra-HD feeds, the signal is accurately processed without latency spikes.

The egress matrix of the IRD-2000 series incorporates professional, high-bandwidth baseband video output interfaces to link with legacy studio grids, multi-viewers, or display arrays. It natively provides high-definition digital HDMI alongside broadcast-grade BNC SDI connectors (with embedded audio) supporting clean baseband rendering.

Professional AES/EBU digital audio connectivity is exclusively supported on the IRD-2020 and IRD-2022 hardware models; this interface is not present on the IRD-2010 and IRD-2012 units. For high-end radio and television studio environments, this balanced digital audio interface provides engineers with a pure, noise-immune, and uncompressed acoustic link, allowing direct connection to master studio console matrices without signal degradation.

The audio processing block natively extracts and decodes standard broadcast audio compression structures embedded within the transport streams. It comprehensively supports AAC, MP3, MP2, and AC3 (Dolby Digital) formats, offering flexible configurations for audio pass-through or downmixing to ensure full downstream hardware compatibility.

Yes. The unit incorporates a high-capacity internal digital stream processing engine. This framework allows headend engineers to execute precise PID filtering and PID remapping, isolate specific Program Numbers from a Multi-Program Transport Stream (MPTS), and split or recombine selected video/audio channels into clean Single Program Transport Streams (SPTS).

Core system parameter initialization, tuner locking thresholds, CI slot statuses, video/audio encoding parameters, and IP/ASI routing matrices are managed exclusively via an embedded WebGUI using a standard web browser over a dedicated, independent Ethernet management interface. This provides network administrators with a secure, responsive, and direct web-based control plane.

Yes. For enterprise-level deployments and master control room integration, the BLANKOM IRD-2000 series fully supports the SNMP v2.0 protocol. This allows network administrators to integrate the device seamlessly into centralized Network Management Systems (NMS), enabling remote real-time monitoring of critical device telemetry, input signal health, lock thresholds, and automated error traps.
