The BLANKOM MPE-4000 family combines two or four HDMI or SDI inputs, H.264/MPEG-2 encoding, ASI remultiplexing and ASI/IP output. Optional redundant power is available for all variants.
Function
The BLANKOM MPE-4000 family combines H.264/AVC and MPEG-2 HD/SD encoding with ASI remultiplexing and ASI/IP output. Select two or four HDMI or SDI inputs for the required source count and interface.
An ASI input accepts an existing transport stream for integration with locally encoded programmes. The four-input platform delivers one MPTS and four SPTS over Gigabit Ethernet, plus two mirrored ASI outputs.
Redundant power supply is available for all variants. Specify this option when ordering. Browser management, front-panel controls and configurable low-delay modes support headend operation.

- H.264 and MPEG-2 HD/SD encoding. 1080p50/60 is supported with H.264 only; interlaced HD, 720p and SD formats are also supported.
- ASI input and ASI/IP output. Integrate an incoming ASI transport stream and locally encoded sources.
- CBR encoding. The current V2 platform supports constant bitrate operation at 1-19.5 Mbps.
- Redundant power option. Available for all two-input and four-input HDMI/SDI variants.
- Headend stream processing. PSI/SI editing and insertion, downscaling and IP null-packet filtering.
- SDI Closed Caption. EIA-608, EIA-708 and Line 21 support on SDI input models only.
- AC-3 dialog normalization. The manufacturer specifies DD AC-3 encoding with dialog normalization from -31 to -1 dB; confirm the required audio configuration.
- Operation and maintenance. LCD and buttons, Web NMS, web-based updates and drawer-type encoder modules. Low-delay choices: Normal, Mode 1, Mode 2 and Manual.

Each video source is encoded before entering the multiplexer. The ASI input feeds an existing transport stream into the remultiplexing path. PSI/SI editing and insertion support the resulting output multiplex. The two ASI output connectors carry mirrored output rather than two independent multiplexes.

Which video codecs are supported?
H.264/AVC and MPEG-2. The MPE-4000 series does not support H.265/HEVC.
Is 1080p50/60 available with both codecs?
No. The OEM specification reserves 1080p50/60 for H.264. MPEG-2 supports the listed interlaced HD, 720p and SD formats.
Does the current version support VBR?
No. The current V2 platform is specified for CBR. The CBR/VBR option refers to the former version.
Is redundant power available for every variant?
Yes. Specify the redundant power option for any two-input or four-input HDMI/SDI variant.
Are the ASI outputs independent?
No. The two BNC outputs mirror the same selected transport stream, MPTS or an SPTS.
Is Closed Caption supported on HDMI models?
The OEM specifies EIA-608, EIA-708 and Line 21 for SDI input versions only.
Is AC-3 only passed through?
No. The OEM specifies DD AC-3 encoding and dialog normalization. Confirm the audio configuration supplied with the order.
What should I specify when ordering?
